About me

I would like to become a part of experts team by contributing to the projects dedicated to the child protection in Armenia and worldwide.I have extensive work experience with socio-educational projects mostly focused on children with special needs.I’ve authored more than 100 development projects for local CSOs.I was involved as a member of the experts' group for development ofChild Protection Index aiming to measure a country’s current child protection system against a common set of UNCRC indicators, with the use of more than 600 indicators, and the issue of more than 100 policy recommendations. The Index was launched in cooperation with the European Economic and Social Committee by the ChildPact. I was a member of the experts team assisting the Ombudsman as a national mechanism forthe Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT). I was also involved as a professional and Board member of the public monitoring group for child Rights in residential care and special education institutions. I have coordinated numbers of projects dedicated to the child protection reforms and creation of alternative services for children having special educational needs, such as: -“Promoting the Rights of children and adolescents with Mental health in Armenia” (funded by EU and implemented by the French Armenian development foundation(FADF) and the Armenian association of child Psychiatrists and psychologists)- legislative reforms related with the care and education of children with special needs was developed-“Promoting the Rights of children with Special educational needs in Armenia” (funded by the World Bank and implemented by the FADF and the ministry of Education and Science.- minimum care standards for special schools and the model Statute for Special Schools were developed.-“Legal Recognition of Armenian Sign Language” project- the Armenian Sign language was recognized by the Parliament as a language for organizing education for children with hearing impairments.-“What is Trafficking in persons –awareness begins from school” project-special methodology for teaching different groups of children with special needs (hearing, visual and mental disabilities) was developed and put in place. -“Advocacy for the parent/caregivers of children with special needs”- a legislative proposal was developed and introduced to the RA Government related with the State allowance for unemployed parents of children with special needs.-“Protection of the rights of children with behavioral and social problems”- Analyses weredone in all regions of Armenia and the report as well as the mapping results were developed.During last 10 years in all mentioned above projects I had a key role acting as a team leader or an expert.I’m familiar with research techniques, data collection and analysis (both qualitative and quantitative).Ibelieve thancancontribute to the better implementation of child protection initiatives and strategies bringing my experiences and motivation.Respectfully,Nune Balyan
