About the project: Nowadays many children in the regions of Armenia have some type of speech disorder, which often prevents them from proper integration and inclusion into society. If treated properly and systematically, such children may see quick advances in their speech and be able to participate properly in the daily life of their communities. However, there is a lack of qualified speech therapists in the regions. In Shirak region there is a particularly high demand for speech therapists.
On the one hand, in order to treat the speech disorders of their children, some parents take them to Yerevan, which is often time consuming and costly. On the other hand, the vast majority of parents do not consider speech disorders severe enough to take their children to speech therapists. Thus, apart from the lack of appropriate specialists, there is also unawareness among parents concerning various types of speech disorders.
The main aim of this project is to contribute to the healthy development of children in the Shirak region, in particular tackling speech disorders.
The expected results of this project include:- Improved conditions and performance of children with speech disorders,
- Increased number of qualified speech therapists in Shirak region,
- Increased awareness among parents of the Shirak region about speech disorders.
The speech therapists will visit various centres in the Shirak region, where they will either provide training to individuals on speech therapy or direct consultancy to the parents and their children. The project team will provide space for conducting trainings and consultancy.
